Through The Lens

We recently had a couple of hours of sunshine and warmth here in Central Scotland so we decided to take advantage and spend some quality time with our son, niece and nephew at one of our local Country Parks.

It was glorious to feel the slight heat of the sun on our faces, even if it was all too brief. Read More

Outdoor Family Photography

This one is a bit of a work and pleasure post. I am a Photographer by day and a Blogger by night so wanted to combine the two a little and show you some of my favourite outdoor family shots.

There’s nothing better than doing your job outdoors on a warm sunny day with the most beautiful natural light around you. It is the absolute optimum time to take photographs. Just pick your times carefully as the harsh midday sun can make photography conditions a bit tricky.

My favourite time is in the morning around 10 or 11, and again in the evening around 6 or 7. This is only during Summer, as of course winter in Scotland means the darkness creeps in at around 4 in the afternoon.

So this is a family I have worked with several times before. They are friends of my sister and so we are all very comfortable in each others company. This makes a mountain of difference when you’re taking photographs. It means there’s no awkwardness and stiff smiles, and generally makes life much easier for both parties.

I use a 50mm lens for these types of shoots. I find it provides the best level of depth within each shot, while preserving the clarity of the subjects and their surroundings. They are by far my absolute favourite shoots… So much fun!

Roll on Summer!!!

Getting Into The Christmas Spirit

Sorry I haven’t posted in a while folks. I am well and truly down the rabbit hole with getting organised for the festive period.

I have been more than useless at figuring out what to buy my loved ones, despite always being the ultimate “Gift Whisperer” in previous years.

I blame the anti-anxiety medication. 😫

Anyway, all is going well otherwise… except of course for all of the normal difficulties of the day like family dramas, Autism dramas & of course the seasonal favourite… FINANCIAL dramas!

I honestly convince myself every year that I haven’t bought enough, despite spending every spare penny we have and then some!!! And hilariously I say EVERY year on Boxing Day that “I’m not doing it again next year”!

Hahaha… What a joker I am!

But in keeping with the aforementioned “spirit” of the season I thought I’d share some of my favourite images from this wonderful (albeit stressful) season, past and present!

Hope you’re all enjoying the Christmas countdown! πŸŽ„πŸŽ…πŸ»πŸ€ΆπŸΌβ˜ƒοΈπŸŽ

My Favourite Instagram Accounts

Initially I thought I would share my Top 5 accounts with you all, but when I tried to narrow it down to just 5 I failed… Miserably.

My Instagram feed is a lot like my taste in music… Very eclectic… Or crazily varied if you prefer.

I have so many different interests and Instagram is just amazing for showcasing the very best examples of people with similar interests to mine.

As well as that, it is primarily about photographs and with me being a photographer it obviously pushes this particular “social media platform” into the Number 1 position!

So without further ado… here are my favourite accounts to follow, from least fave to absolute fave, and the wonderful things you can expect from them.

Facts – Facts By Guff

16122557_1226255417466178_6701154949000069120_a

This is a wonderfully weird page filled to the brim with the most interesting Facts. That’s all. But if your a strange one like me, who enjoys the most random information, some conversation starters or just an excuse to one up the people around you with your obscure knowledge, then this page is a winner!!!Β

An example of the kind of information you can expect:

“Google was originally called Backrub”!

9.

StaceyMarieMUA – Stacey McDonald

Stacey is a Doncaster based Makeup Artist whos work is just incredible. Her artistry has attracted almost 100k followers and quite rightly so. She regularly posts videos showing her work in process and has an array of colourful photos on her page to admire. If you love makeup, this is definitely one to follow!

8.

CorbyCraigNewBuild – Craig Johnson

20184061_1983633811662629_3108127751756840960_a

Craigs page is jam-packed full of beautiful images of his newly bought & decorated home. His style is classic and clean, and if you’re a lover of home decor then you will really enjoy what he has to offer. I often flick through his images when I’m feeling stressed and it just calms me… It really does. Also, his InstaStories are pretty funny too.Β

7.

WonderfulU – Megan Gilbride

22639124_1516990175062019_8822256425376940032_n

I first discovered Megans page through another Instagram account. She often models for a photographer I follow and there was just something about her style and presence that lured me in.Β  Her fashion sense is so wide and varied that she goes from Boho Chic, to High Fashion, to Simple Elegance all in one flawless stride. If I were at all capable of holding down any style at all, it would be hers!

Actual Insta Homes

This page is every home interiors lovers dream. It is a collection of the best of actual instagrammers homes. It is unbelievable and wonderful all at once. It both inspires me, and makes me feel bad about my totally un-insta-ready home! But well worth a follow.Β

5.

MilkBubbleTea – Becky Hendry

So the only way I can describe this page is Cosy Cosy Cosy!Β

Becky lives in what can only be described as a white & pastel wonderland. Her home is filled with fluffy blankets, Disney inspired EVERYTHING, cakes & flowers galore. It is where I’d image Alice In Wonderland would live Happily Ever After, which is funny because Becky is not unlike Alice. If you’re looking for cozy vibes… get following.

4.

The Motherload HQ

20969139_165568347336118_8521593626436829184_a

The tagline for this page is as follows:

“Celebrating the carnage of Motherhood” – this is absolutely the best way to describe this wonderful page. It’s not your typical polished Instagram page, instead it’s full of real life mummy moments and off the cuff humour. Its sole purpose I believe is to make us mummies feel less guilty about our sometimes less than adequate parenting. As well as bringing us mummies all together to celebrate those moments of victory (i.e getting the kids to bed unscathed, or getting them to eat all of their dinner). I love this page… It seems to pop up on my feed just when I really need it.Β

3.

Mother Of Daughters – Clemmie Hooper

22580584_1435877119794572_3751180541760634880_n

Clemmie is my idol. I honestly don’t know how she does everything she does. She’s a midwife, an InstaMum, an author and a mother to 4 daughters (2 of whom are toddling twins)!!! She is my hero. Shes beautiful and funny and straight speaking. I love her InstaStories so much because shes just so normal. I can relate to her, as can most other women and mothers. She is truly brilliant.Β

2.

The Mother Hen – Kathryn Hendry

22069669_142815409666213_2744065132379242496_n

Ok so I’m not entirely sure where I first discovered this wonderful lady. But I’m so glad i did. She is from Belfast and has the best InstaStories. Shes a mum to 3 gorgeous boys, Adam, Finley & Hugo, as well as being married to the ever-so-lovely Daniel. She’s just so open and honest about parenting. She lets you into her life and shares in all the good and not-so-good aspects of motherhood. From celebrating Finley going to sleep at a reasonable hour to wondering how shes going to cook dinner whilst holding Hugo at the same time. She is just great. In fact, I feel like I know her, so much so that I’ve actually had dreams recently where Kathryn and her family have featured. Lol. A bit stalkery??? Maybe… but you should definitely give her a follow. Even if it’s just to hear her amazing Northern Irish accent.Β

Stacey Leigh From The Soul – Stacey Leigh

22277773_523617124643838_4999046120966455296_n

Where do I begin with this amazing lady?!?! Stacey has been my saving Grace these last few months. She is a former Social Worker and mummy to Reika and Jacob. Jacob has Autism and she has shared in all aspects of his condition and diagnosis process. She has been invaluable for me and my hubby as our boy has recently been diagnosed with Autism too. She is just such a wonderful and caring person. She reaches out to her followers and makes an effort to connect with them one on one. I am sooo sad that she lives so far from me, because if we were closer I would make a point of connecting with her face-to-face. She is so positive and spiritual, and sees things in such a different way to other people. It’s uplifting to listen to her speak. Even if you don’t have any connecting to Autism, follow her anyway. She will give you a new way to look at your life. You will not be sorry I sent you.Β

So there you go lovelies. A very small selection of the best my Instagram Feed has to offer. These really are great pages so get yourselves along to them and have a look for yourself… And feel free to let me know if there are any pages you follow that you love and want to share with me.

Through The Lens

It would appear I am a bit rusty on the old blog post front.

I’ve been absent for quite a few weeks, with only previously scheduled posts going up recently.

What can I say? Life just got a little too hectic. And when I say hectic I mean it!!!

Family life was just crazy… Relatives hospitalised… A very sensory-overloaded toddler… A stressed out hubby…

And me… tired, anxious and just in need of a break!

So a break is what we took. Myself, my amazing hubby and our boy took a few days off from life and spent it at a caravan park down south.

IMG_5808

It was just what we needed. Quiet, peaceful… Serene even!

IMG_5807

It was an opportunity for all 3 of us to recharge our batteries and just enjoy being with each other.

It was wonderful.

IMG_5816IMG_5837

My boy had some much needed time and space to let loose and get all of that nervous energy out of his system, as well as enjoying some playtime with his daddy.

IMG_5844IMG_5847IMG_5840

And as if the beautiful views surrounding us weren’t enough, we even had a daily dose of ducks, geese and swans swarming around us, entertaining my boy with their loud (and often obnoxious) squawking.

IMG_5802

Bliss… Sheer bliss!

Through The Lens – August Best Bits

As I’ve mentioned before, I am a photographer and I honestly love my job so any opportunity to pick up the camera and snap away is taken, no questions asked!

August was super busy and exciting for us and so I thought I’d share some of my favourite images, taken over the course of the month.

IMG_3437

I’m a sucker for a flower shot & always have fresh flowers in the house so perfect opportunity to get a shot like this! Seriously… How pretty are Roses???

IMG_3487

We enjoyed a day out at the park on the 5th of August when it was unusually warm.

IMG_3497

My boy and his daddy, as usual, were joined at the hip!

IMG_3542

My super handsome nephew started Primary School in August. Proud Aunty moment indeed!

IMG_3770

This is a random one but I wanted to show off my new print… Rose Gold, Marble, a cute little Succulent plant & Coffee… It really doesn’t get much better than this!

IMG_3572

The biggest and most excting part of the month was when my beautiful little Prince turned 2!

IMG_3697

I couldn’t be prouder of this little warrior for everything he has and continues to overcome.

IMG_3700

He is the best thing I’ve ever done in my life!

IMG_3776

And coming full circle, I’m ending on a pretty image of some roses I had on Β my desk… Colourful, fragrant & so much fun to photograph.

Matthews 2nd Birthday

So Saturday was my beautiful boys 2nd birthday and I thought I’d share our day with you all.

IMG_3572

Celebrating your little humans birthday is such a special thing… And for me, the occasion is all the more important because we really didn’t know whether we would ever get to celebrate any of his birthdays.

This year I chose to hire out one of our local party venues which comes equipped with a soft play area for the kids. It’s always nice to do the party games thing, but with Matthews sensory issues, I felt it was best to just have an area where all the kids could play and Matthew could wander wherever and whenever he felt like it.

IMG_3597

My sister has used the same venue before for her own children and I knew it would be perfect.

My friends brother provided the buffet (which was Peppa Pig themed) and I ordered his cake. These were all specific measures taken in order to reduce the stress and hassle of organising it all ourselves.

IMG_3656

As I previously noted in my Party Planning post, we had a quiet zone with a pop-up tent, blankets and cushions, and a kindle loaded with episodes of Peppa Pig. This was all in case Matthew got too overwhelmed and needed some quiet time. Thankfully he didn’t need it, and was happy enough wandering around by himself (supervised of course) without anybody bothering him.

IMG_3675

We even managed to sing Happy Birthday without the noise upsetting him… He was definitely in a world of his own by this point, but he was still comfortable in his surroundings and in his daddy’s arms.

It was a total success. All the children and their parents seemed to enjoy themselves, the buffet was delicious, and my boy managed a whole 2 hours in a strange and unknown environment without a single meltdown.

IMG_3700

I am one proud mama!
