Thank you so much to my lovely friend Natalie at Searching For My Inner Zen for the nomination to complete this tag. I love little posts like these as they give you an insight into the brains of the people you follow… And I’m a bit of a nosey b*tch so… lol. Read More
Afternoon lovelies and welcome to my FIRST EVER favourites post. It’s an idea I’ve been toying with for a while and so I thought why the hell not?!?!
Yes I may not be a “young thing” anymore according to most people under 30 (i’m 32 btw) but I’m still going to give you my tuppence worth when it comes to all the bits I’ve been loving recently. Read More
It’s Saturday afternoon and I am sitting at my desk while my husband watches football and my son protests a “timeout” in his playpen. This isn’t a punishment for him, but rather a 10 minute restbite for daddy and I who are at our wits end with his challenging behaviour today, and by challenging I mean picking up and throwing every movable object in the livingroom. There’s only so many times you can put the room back together before having to throw in the towel.
So that’s our Saturday, and I imagine the rest of the day won’t play out much different.
For this reason I’ve opted for a “chilled-to-the-max” Saturday night… The only way to recuperate and rejuvenate when I’ve had a horrendously difficult day with the tiny human.
For me it’s a shower (I am soooo not into baths) where I listen to my latest Spotify playlist and sing along (badly might I add). I feel the weight of the world dropping off my shoulders when I’m in the shower, and I feel even better when I have clean, dry hair followed by a quick skincare regime and fresh pyjamas to wear.
You should know by now that I have a very sweet tooth. It’s my biggest downfall I think… but there’s nothing better than having a little picnic of snacks and goodies when you’ve had a hard day. My favourites are Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, Cake and Peanut MnM’s. Yum!
No Saturday night is complete without an alcoholic refreshment. Now I’m not a big drinker at all and I believe very much that alcohol is best enjoyed in moderation. However, I’ve recently discovered the joys of Pink Gin and I’m very happy about it. My hubby mixes me up a cocktail of 25ml Pink Gin, Diet Lemonade, Lime slices & frozen Raspberries. It is out of this world good! Give it a try!
I like to snuggle up with a blanket and propped up pillows on my cuddle sofa, while my hubby stretches out on his sofa opposite. Some people like to snuggle with their other half, but that’s just not us. We prefer getting comfortable in our own space and more often than not that involves both a blanket and a hot water bottle for me.
We go through so many different moods when it comes to what we like to watch on TV. We’re not very into movies that often, with a few exceptions every now and again for ones we love. Generally speaking though we go through a selection of our favourite TV shows. These are currently ‘The Big Bang Theory’, ‘Gavin & Stacey’, ‘Californication’, ‘Modern Family’ and (despite protests from my hubby) ‘Sex & The City’.
Then it’s just time to relax. We’ve sorted everything that’s important, and despite there being a pile of washing the size of Mount Everest, we make the choice to prioritise our sanity over household chores. That can wait till Sunday!
What do you lovelies do in your downtime??? Let me know in the comments!
I recently told you all about reading “Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine”, whereby I managed to read this marvellous book from start to finish in a few days. I cannot stress enough how much of an anomaly this actually is. I have mountains of beautiful books that I bought with every intention of jumping into as soon as they arrived, only to have them become a permanent ornamental fixture in my home.
However, as I’ve mentioned before I am subscribed to Amazon Audible and this is how I get my literary fix. I have a library full of lovely books that I’ve collected over the last year or so and I tap into them whenever I’m able to, which usually ends up after midnight while i’m lying next to my snoring husband and my little boy is sound asleep in bed.
It’s been a life saver and I don’t say that lightly.
There have been many moments over the last year where I have felt so overwhelmed and exhausted from life that the only thing getting me through those last hours of my day was knowing I was going to have some downtime listening to some of my favourite authors.
Now, I’m a mum so it should be of no surprise that a lot of my book choices are ones written by other mums alike. However, I tend to purchase the audiobook along with the actual hard copy so that if I do get the time to actually physically read the written words then I can. I mean there’s honestly nothing better than holding a book in your hands, do you not agree?
These are just some of the books in my library at the minute:
So if you’re like me and you don’t always have the time to sit down and read a book, but still have the desire to delve into the words of your favourite authors, you should definitely give Amazon Audible a go. You can even get a free trial to see how you like it, and if you’re anything like me you will wonder how you ever got by without it.

So I’m like most people when it comes to unwinding and relaxing at home. If I don’t have a good book in my hands (which has become less and less an occurrence since the tiny human came along), I’m inclined to load up Netflix and get lost in “TV World”. Why not? Oftentimes “TV World” is better than the real world. There’s no bills to pay in “TV World” (except of course the Netflix subscription), there’s no dirty nappies to change in “TV World” and most importantly, there’s no such thing as falling asleep and missing the rest of your film/ TV show cause you can just re-watch from wherever you left of!
Anyway, I thought I’d share some of my favourites from Netflix, in case you’re lacking in inspiration for what your next ‘binge-watch’ should be.
This choice may be a no-brainer for most people, but for those of you who haven’t yet discovered ‘The Big Bang Theory’ – YOU ARE MISSING OUT!!! It is an American Sitcom based on a group of genius-level geeks and the women (or lack thereof) in their lives, who befriend a beautiful, albeit ditsy blonde actress-wannabe. It’s funny and clever, with some great characters. There are 10 seasons available on Netflix to watch so binge away!
This show is quite possibly THE BEST SHOW ON NETFLIX! It follows Hank Moody, the writer, womaniser, drinker, smoker and occasional drug-taker on his path of self-destruction through LA. It is written brilliantly and beautifully. If you’re thinking its going to be David Duchovny à la ‘The X Files’ then you are VERY mistaken… There is absolutely NOTHING ‘Mulder’ about Hank Moody! There are 7 seasons available for your viewing pleasure, oh and be prepared for lots of swearing, sex and general bad behaviour!
So if you’re not British or you are and you’ve been living under a rock somewhere you will not know of the genius that is ‘Gavin & Stacey’. Written by James Corden (The Late Late Show host) and Ruth Jones (who can be seen pictured at the far left and far right of the picture), it is the story of Gavin and Stacey (the couple in the middle) who after months of chatting on the phone, finally meet and fall in love. Their relationship turns the lives of their friends and families upside down and inside out and it is absolutely HILARIOUS! There are 2 seasons available on Netflix. Do yourself a favour and whack this onto your watch list – you won’t be sorry.
Now, if you’re not Scottish then you will most likely never have heard of this show before. It is a comedy following the lives of Jack & Victor from Craiglang (a fictional town in central Scotland). The comedy duo are pensioners (not really) living their day-to-day lives with their friends in the local community and spend the majority of their time in their local pub the Clansman. It’s a brilliantly funny script, with brilliantly funny actors executing their lines with the most satirical, comedic value you would want in a TV show. You might struggle with the accents at first but persevere… It’ll be worth it. You can enjoy 6 seasons of this little gem on Netflix.
So there you have it… 4 fantastic shows to get your teeth into. Just do yourself a favour… Get comfy, make sure you have a snack and a beverage, and enjoy!!!
