MONAT Black – Full Review

Morning all you lovely lot. Hope you’re all well.

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was kindly sent some of the MONAT hair care range to try and that I would give a full review once I had put it through its paces. Read More

Beauty Tutorial – Emerald Eyes

So I don’t know if i’ve mentioned this before but my sister is a Makeup Artist and a bloody good one at that. She regularly glams my face which I feel very grateful for and so I thought I would share her gift with you in all in the form of a Blogtorial (blog-tutorial if you will).

I’ll supply all of the details of the products shes uses and the links to where you can buy them should you wish to replicate the look she’s demonstrated.

So without any further babbling here is this weeks look:

She has used the P.Louise base in Rumour which unfortunately appears to be out of stock at the minute. If you have it already then great, if not just use another good eye shadow base and blend this out all over the eye lid, leaving a clear and defined line below the eyebrows.

This followed by blending both the shades “Jada” and “Diva” from the Morphe X Jaclyn Hill Palette.

Once you’ve blended these shades out, add an overlay of the P.Louise eye base on top so as to create an area in the middle of the lid where you can add a spotlight overlay.

Using the Barry M Cosmetics Holographic Eyeshadow Topper  in Supernova, create a spotlight effect in the centre of the lid.

Continue to build this until you have the desired effect.

Finish the look by applying Doll Beauty lashes in Jasmine.

You can choose the makeup products you prefer to complete the rest of the face, however in this case the following products were used to complete the look:

Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless Foundation
Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Brow Pomade
Mac Mineralize Skinfinsh Highlighter
TARTE Double Duty Beauty Shape Tape Contour Concealer
Maybelline Mascara Lash Sensational
Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor

So there you have it. I hope you love this look as much as i do and if you give it a try be sure to let me know how you get on.

Take care lovelies,

Self Care – Hair Care

I recently wrote that 2018 would be the year I focused on Self-Care.

So in a bid to continue on this quest, I’ve decided to branch out and show you in a bit more detail, the products (old & new) that I use to achieve my inner zen.

This week I’m focusing on ‘Hair Care‘.

I’m not in any way loyal to any particular brands when it comes to looking after my locks, and I actually quite enjoy experimenting with different shampoos, conditioners, treatments & styling products. There are a few brands I’ve used that were underwhelming, but I’m yet to find something that knocks my socks off. It was therefore a lovely surprise when I was approached by a super sweet lady in the US to try some products from a brand I’d never heard of. She is a Market Partner of a company called MONAT (short for Modern Nature).

So after speaking to her about their products, I did a bit of research myself. There is lots of information on their site, as well as plenty of reviews and opinions elsewhere on the internet, but I’ll break it down to the basics of what they promise to deliver:

MONAT’s ingredients are naturally-based, and combine the best of nature with cutting-edge science to provide effective solutions for all your hair concerns.

  • NO Gluten
  • NO Harmful Colours
  • NO Harmful Fragrances
  • NO Animal Testing
  • NO Animal Origin Ingredients

The particular products that I’ve been sent to try out are the MONAT Black 2 in 1 Shampoo & Conditioner RRP £32 as well as the Restore Leave-In Conditioner RRP £35.

The 2 in 1 Shampoo & Conditioner is:

A complete 2-in-1 system that cleanses and conditions while maintaining essential moisture and balance for youthful, healthy-looking hair. Nourishes the scalp whilst helping boost natural hair growth and improve follicle strength to help reduce hair thinning. Safe to use on coloured and/or chemically treated hair.

The Restore Leave-In Conditioner is:

A nourishing leave-in conditioner designed to revive each hair strand using the same proven ingredients and technologies as MONAT’s Renew Hydrating Shampoo and Replenish Masque. Helps restore essential nutrients to the scalp, boosting natural hair growth and improving follicle strength to reduce hair thinning. Leaves fragile hair silky, youthful and supple. Safe to use on coloured and/or chemically treated hair.

Along with trying these new products for the first time, I also have a few other older staple items I’ve been returning to recently. These are the Schwarzkopf GOT2B 2 Sexy Volumizing HairSpray RRP £4.19 and the Mark Hill Medium Radial Brush RRP £11.99.

This plumping hairspray gives you that push up you need to flaunt that sexy, show-stopping big volume!

It is nothing short of miraculous for people with fine, lifeless hair like mine.

The Medium Radial Brush will add volume and body. PLUS, the brush allows for even air-flow which makes for a super-fast and effective blow dry. The medium brush is perfect for those with medium to long hair.

I’ve found that since using both these items for the last few weeks, that I’ve been able to control my fine hair with much more ease. The brush has made blow-drying a much more pleasant task, despite it still being a lengthy process. While the hairspray has done a Grade A job in boosting the volume of my fine (but lots of it), damaged hair.

I can only hope that the MONAT hair system does what it says on the tin, so to speak, and restores my long locks to their natural state. First impressions so far are good, it smells utterly divine… like an expensive Spa.

I shall report back soon but in the meantime, please feel free to leave some of your “can’t live without” hair products below in the comments, as well as any reviews from those of you who have tried the MONAT range.

Take care lovelies!

Follow Friday

Happy Friday lovely people!

I thought I’d share something a bit different today. I’ve been loving discovering new blogs as of late and have found myself reading them into the wee hours of the morning. So I thought I’d share some of my favourites from the past week:

These are just a few, and they are all wonderful in their own right. They cover a whole range of topics from makeup to mental health, life changing health conditions to creative short stories!

Have a little read, and feel free to leave any blogs you think I would enjoy reading in the comments… including your own posts! 😁

My 5 Favourite YouTube Channels

If you are anything like me you will enjoy the indulgence of a Youtube subscription or ten. It’s my absolute favourite thing to watch while the baby is happy in his own little world. He’ll even oftentimes sit with me and we’ll watch together while he downs a bottle of Alpros finest. 🙂

So here are my top 5… And believe me when I say it was hard to whittle down. They cover all sorts of different topics including but not exclusively FASHIONMOTHERHOOD, BEAUTY, LIFE, HOME INTERIORS and all the rest of it:

Lily Pebbles

The best way I can describe Lily is that she’s a breath of fresh air. Honest, straight-to-the-point and ambitious. She shares in all aspects of the latest beauty and fashion whilst also making the audience feel like shes just sitting having a conversation with friends. She is always the first person I want to watch when I open up my subscription feed.

Sprinkle Of Glitter – Louise Pentland

Louise is a funny, savvy, articulate mama who’s just welcomed a new little baby girl into her family. The mum of 2 is brutally honest in an IDGAF way that’s refreshing and empowering coming from a female. She’s girly and beautiful and a joy to watch.

Lisa Eldridge

Makeup & Beauty guru to the stars, Lisa Eldridge is a genius! She shares tutorial, after tutorial of flawless looks fit for the red carpet, and not to sound weird but her voice is what I imagine velvet would sound like. Lol! She’s truly brilliant.

Zoella & More Zoella

Ok so I cheated with this one, but I watch both her channels in equal measure so i’m counting this as one. I love Zoella. She’s the girl next door, silly, full of fun and humble. Yes she’s made her fortune and she knows how to spend it but I honestly love nothing more than watching her decorate her beautiful new home and go through her sack-fulls of PO Box goodies.

Jamie Genevieve

Finally, for those of you who don’t know Jamie, she is a Scottish Makeup Artist. Known for her heavy, grungy looks and crazy sense of humour. She lives down the road from me and after watching her weekly vlogs I’ve decided we would be great friends. She too is super successful but completely humble with it. I wait with anticipation for her weekly vlogs being uploaded!

So that’s my recommendations folks. Please feel free to let me know of any YouTube accounts i’m missing out on as i’m always looking for new content to get engrossed in.

My Favourite Instagram Accounts

Initially I thought I would share my Top 5 accounts with you all, but when I tried to narrow it down to just 5 I failed… Miserably.

My Instagram feed is a lot like my taste in music… Very eclectic… Or crazily varied if you prefer.

I have so many different interests and Instagram is just amazing for showcasing the very best examples of people with similar interests to mine.

As well as that, it is primarily about photographs and with me being a photographer it obviously pushes this particular “social media platform” into the Number 1 position!

So without further ado… here are my favourite accounts to follow, from least fave to absolute fave, and the wonderful things you can expect from them.

Facts – Facts By Guff

This is a wonderfully weird page filled to the brim with the most interesting Facts. That’s all. But if your a strange one like me, who enjoys the most random information, some conversation starters or just an excuse to one up the people around you with your obscure knowledge, then this page is a winner!!!

An example of the kind of information you can expect:

“Google was originally called Backrub”!

StaceyMarieMUA – Stacey McDonald

Stacey is a Doncaster based Makeup Artist whos work is just incredible. Her artistry has attracted almost 100k followers and quite rightly so. She regularly posts videos showing her work in process and has an array of colourful photos on her page to admire. If you love makeup, this is definitely one to follow!

CorbyCraigNewBuild – Craig Johnson

Craigs page is jam-packed full of beautiful images of his newly bought & decorated home. His style is classic and clean, and if you’re a lover of home decor then you will really enjoy what he has to offer. I often flick through his images when I’m feeling stressed and it just calms me… It really does. Also, his InstaStories are pretty funny too.

WonderfulU – Megan Gilbride

I first discovered Megans page through another Instagram account. She often models for a photographer I follow and there was just something about her style and presence that lured me in.  Her fashion sense is so wide and varied that she goes from Boho Chic, to High Fashion, to Simple Elegance all in one flawless stride. If I were at all capable of holding down any style at all, it would be hers!

Actual Insta Homes

This page is every home interiors lovers dream. It is a collection of the best of actual instagrammers homes. It is unbelievable and wonderful all at once. It both inspires me, and makes me feel bad about my totally un-insta-ready home! But well worth a follow.

MilkBubbleTea – Becky Hendry

So the only way I can describe this page is Cosy Cosy Cosy!

Becky lives in what can only be described as a white & pastel wonderland. Her home is filled with fluffy blankets, Disney inspired EVERYTHING, cakes & flowers galore. It is where I’d image Alice In Wonderland would live Happily Ever After, which is funny because Becky is not unlike Alice. If you’re looking for cozy vibes… get following.

The Motherload HQ

The tagline for this page is as follows:

“Celebrating the carnage of Motherhood” – this is absolutely the best way to describe this wonderful page. It’s not your typical polished Instagram page, instead it’s full of real life mummy moments and off the cuff humour. Its sole purpose I believe is to make us mummies feel less guilty about our sometimes less than adequate parenting. As well as bringing us mummies all together to celebrate those moments of victory (i.e getting the kids to bed unscathed, or getting them to eat all of their dinner). I love this page… It seems to pop up on my feed just when I really need it.

Mother Of Daughters – Clemmie Hooper

Clemmie is my idol. I honestly don’t know how she does everything she does. She’s a midwife, an InstaMum, an author and a mother to 4 daughters (2 of whom are toddling twins)!!! She is my hero. Shes beautiful and funny and straight speaking. I love her InstaStories so much because shes just so normal. I can relate to her, as can most other women and mothers. She is truly brilliant.

The Mother Hen – Kathryn Hendry

Ok so I’m not entirely sure where I first discovered this wonderful lady. But I’m so glad i did. She is from Belfast and has the best InstaStories. Shes a mum to 3 gorgeous boys, Adam, Finley & Hugo, as well as being married to the ever-so-lovely Daniel. She’s just so open and honest about parenting. She lets you into her life and shares in all the good and not-so-good aspects of motherhood. From celebrating Finley going to sleep at a reasonable hour to wondering how shes going to cook dinner whilst holding Hugo at the same time. She is just great. In fact, I feel like I know her, so much so that I’ve actually had dreams recently where Kathryn and her family have featured. Lol. A bit stalkery??? Maybe… but you should definitely give her a follow. Even if it’s just to hear her amazing Northern Irish accent.

Stacey Leigh From The Soul – Stacey Leigh

Where do I begin with this amazing lady?!?! Stacey has been my saving Grace these last few months. She is a former Social Worker and mummy to Reika and Jacob. Jacob has Autism and she has shared in all aspects of his condition and diagnosis process. She has been invaluable for me and my hubby as our boy has recently been diagnosed with Autism too. She is just such a wonderful and caring person. She reaches out to her followers and makes an effort to connect with them one on one. I am sooo sad that she lives so far from me, because if we were closer I would make a point of connecting with her face-to-face. She is so positive and spiritual, and sees things in such a different way to other people. It’s uplifting to listen to her speak. Even if you don’t have any connecting to Autism, follow her anyway. She will give you a new way to look at your life. You will not be sorry I sent you.

So there you go lovelies. A very small selection of the best my Instagram Feed has to offer. These really are great pages so get yourselves along to them and have a look for yourself… And feel free to let me know if there are any pages you follow that you love and want to share with me.

My Everyday Makeup Routine

So this is more of a blog post for me than it probably is for anybody else as I am a total makeup FANGIRL!

This does not mean, in any way, that I know what I’m doing, or indeed that I’m any good at it. However, this is one of my favourite types of blog/ vlog posts as it’s a great way to see new and unknown makeup, as well as learn some new tips and techniques.

Personally, I don’t think I wear a lot of makeup and although this is my “Everyday” look, I don’t actually wear it everyday. I like to let my skin breathe and recuperate but more importantly, sometimes I just can’t be bothered.

However, when I am feeling up to it, this is the look that I go for when I’m in a rush, heading out to a casual social engagement, or just wanting to look less like the walking dead and more like a person who’s got at least a small handle on her life.

It may seem like a lot of products and tools, but trust me when I say this is the bare minimum in comparison to what I use for a night out!

Also, and more importantly, the majority of these products are for my base, and if I’ve learned nothing else in my 32 years, I have learned that in order to keep my makeup from falling off my grease ridden face at 5pm after a long day of errands and running after my son, it is necessary to make sure my base is flawless.

So in order of their use, here are each of my products of choice:

1. Laura Geller Spackle Primer.

2. Tarte Amazonian Clay & Foundation Brush.

3. Nars Creamy Concealer & Real Techniques Buffing Brush & Sponge.

4. BodyShop Powder, Real Techniques Powder Brush & Laura Mercier Setting Powder

5. Bourjois Bronzing Powder & Wilkos Powder Brush.

6. MUA Blusher.

7. Benefit Brow Pencil, Brow Set & Brow Tones.

8. Mac Highlighter & Makeup Revolution Angled Brush.

9. Tarte Mascara.

After a few years of this being my go-to everyday look, I have got the application time down to a mere 10 minutes, which if you’re in a rush is ideal.

As I said before, I am no expert and so other people will of course be able to do a much much much better job than me. However the end result of this 10 minute process is more than worth it for me and I reckon it is for my husband too, as having to look at my death-like complexion on a daily basis can’t be an easy or pleasant thing to do after all these years.
