I’ve always been a big fan of reading. I have no particular preference for what type of books I’ll give my attention to, but generally it seems to fall into the self-help/ non-fiction genre that I get through quickest.
Since having my little boy, I’ve found little to no time at all to dive into a good read, and so I’ve decided that I’m adding the very ambitious (and probably completely unachievable) goal of getting through at least 1 book every month.
I have a few that I float in and out of from time to time, depending on what I’m needing from them at that particular moment, but this is a dead set cover to cover commitment.
On that basis, I figured I’d do better having a a support system in place for such a mammoth task, and so I’ve decided to partake in Dawn O’Porters @the_cold_water_book_club on Instagram. Our first book is ‘Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine’ by Gail Honeyman.
Goodreads shares the following synopsis for the book:
No one’s ever told Eleanor that life should be better than fine.
Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she’s thinking. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding social interactions, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza, vodka, and phone chats with Mummy.
But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office. When she and Raymond together save Sammy, an elderly gentleman who has fallen on the sidewalk, the three become the kinds of friends who rescue one another from the lives of isolation they have each been living. And it is Raymond’s big heart that will ultimately help Eleanor find the way to repair her own profoundly damaged one.
Feel free to join in with the book club if it takes your fancy lovelies. I started reading the other night and before I realised it I had reached Chapter 7. It’s fab so far and I’m really excited to delve even deeper into the world of Eleanor Oliphant (the next time my toddler lets me of course).
If you’ve already finished it or you’re in the process of reading it, please leave a comment letting me know what you thought.
Take care lovelies,
